"Stupid" ski stunt underground

So this guy decided to ski down the longest escalator in a tube station in London. Even RTE News 2 showed the clip twice last night to prove that it's stupid and dangerous.. hehe.

Here is the clip:

Dontcha just hate it when...

... you decide to sleep in till 11 on a lazy Sunday and realise half an hour later that Daylight Savings Time kicked in, and it's 12pm! Oh cripes. I wish they just remove DST. Only 2 good things come out of this, I get to leave work 1 hour earlier and summer is near. The worst thing is, I have to get up 1 hour earlier for work now. *End rant.

One of my favourite quotes

...is by the famous Deng Xiaoping

It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice.

I will always have repect for my dad's advice, his quotes are very admirable, I keep forgetting them word for word (it's in Cantonese), being Irish Born Chinese, tis a bit hard to remember Chinese quotes and sayings. There is one though, but it was one that was passed from his mom down to him when he was young:

"Moh See, Im Mo Yea- See" - If times are peaceful, do not cause trouble.

There are plenty more, I will try and remember them, and translate them.

It's been 4 months since he has passed away, it's still not easy. I really miss talking to him, miss him when he sings, and especially miss him when he cooks.

Tidy Town Hot Fuzziness and Cherry Blossom whoopsies

For all those who have seen Hot Fuzz ("yarp!"), what Fine Gael want is to have Tidy Towns as a reality tv show. And all I could think off is Hot Fuzz.

Japan is Cherry blossom mad! Whilst Mick and I were over in Tokyo for our honeymoon, there was 1 or 2 trees blossoming, and it was like a superstar. So many people hoarding around it. I would love to go there and check out the parks with all the blossoms open. But this is where the Japanese takes the biscuit when it comes down to how serious they are about this event. From BBC News, Japan apology for blossom error. What I like even better was the fact that this is an excuse for a party!

Salarymen and office ladies, as they are known here, get drunk under the trees each night until the blossoms fall.

Wii Pachinko

All I see is blinking lights on the entrances to amusement arcades that are specifically for pachinkos. They are loud, and goes "ding ding ding..." and lots of other noises! It's the only place where people can smoke as well, while playing in amusement arcades.

But no more smoke or garish lights, as it's coming to the Wii (in Japan, of course). Wondering when they will release it here, but if I like it too much, next time I am in Japan, you might find me entranced by the evil panchinko machines!

Pipes and Picasa space upgrade

Mick pointed out Yahoo's interactive feed builder and reader called pipes. Will have to try it out, and see what it is like. Although I am still an avid Netnewswire user.

And Mick also pointed out that Google has upgraded space on Picasa to 1G.

Another reason to stay away from MBNA

... they now charge customers for being in credit!

They are slightly on the lower rung to AIB. Ach!

Total Eclipse!

I just realised I missed my opportunity to say "...full moon, total eclipse!" (from the jaffa cake ad). Doh!

I saw it last night, it was not as orangey as I thought it would be, as I witnessed a total lunar eclipse before, and it was amazing. It was a murky brown from where I viewed it, maybe it was hazy, or there was too much light pollution.

(Piccies from Google.)

Shush! No talking in lifts

From Mainichi Daily News, Stickers in a Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry elevator urge people to be quiet

I wished they had these stickers on the lifts for that one time, when we were in the lift coming back from one of our numerous trips to town in Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo, that these western businessmen just shut up! The hotel staff (2 in total) with 2 (or was it 3) businessmen were being polite, did not talk much. Just asked about the trip getting there. The businessmen went into some ramble about some acquistion of some land to develop hotels, but it was the boisterous businessman's attitude that really bugged me. We were in a damn lift. It felt longer than it should (ground floor to 38th floor). How does the Japanese staff handle all this bravado? Mick and I just don't talk, it was just curteous. Another thing I noticed, rich Japanese people, Japanese men don't talk on the lift. So what's the with attitude from westerners?

So when in lift in highrise buildings, please make it bearable during that time to keep your business mouths shut!
