Sun and AIB

News is everywhere about it. Great news for Sun.
Silcon.com - Irish bank chooses Sun and Linux
Enn.ie - AIB set to adopt open source OS
Yahoo - Allied Irish Bank Selects Sun Microsystems Java(TM) Desktop System
(And probably more if you google-searched news for it.)

Trains, trains, trams...

Good thing I did not go hime, cos there was a huge delay with signals at Heuston Station But on a brighter note, the LUAS will open this Wednesday, and free for 5 days. Yes, free for 5 days.
And we are cheaper than London with regards to public tranport fees (amongst others).

Easi-travel, easy my ***

Hah, I knew it was too good to be true. The annual tax-saving ticket (easi-travel plan)I got at work does not work anymore! It keeps saying that it's the wrong side up for both DART and Dublin Bus ticket readers! *grr* So I looked up on replacement charges, I know it does not come for free, come on this is Irish Rail... and here are their conditions. I kepts mine in the wallet they provided and only removed it for getting on the bus or throught the turnstiles at DART stations. It was ok 2 days ago, not it's not working anymore. The magnetic strip is probably trashed by one of the dodgy ticket readers. And I will need to pay 12Euro per month till December! And it's not even my fault. Huh, me pay them for their volatile card, I don't think so. Now I will have to be the person who tries to get reader to read the ticket, and then wave to the driver on the bus... or wade through the crowd alighting the DART. This is crazy.

US army uniform new look

Check out the new US army uniform from CNN's article, and my friend did a bit of searching (more close-up shots) and found this hilarious site of what you cannot do in the army.

Luas going by Heuston station

Saw the Luas today moving for the first time. Seems like many people I know have seen it before me. Thing was it was escorted by 2 Gardaí on bikes as it was doing test runs along the Tallaght to Abbey Street line. With the little ding-dong ding-dong, it looked pretty cool. And is not loud. Maybe all the works causing traffic mayhem was all worth it now. We'll see. But the price of a Luas ticket is another thing!

Sun Blogs

Cool, finally Sun has a wee blogging community, yay! About time, not sure about the blog-rolling page. I find it quite annoying, and it seems I am not the only one... who is not keen on the roller. But there is another place that has everyone in it, it's planetsun.org.

Well... more on this OS Solaris

Just do a goog-search on this topic now, and you'll get plenty of news on this. From one of my news feeds, I see this "Sun confirms plan to open source Solaris", but then I also see this "SCO Says Sun Can't GPL Solaris Without Its Permission. Man, at least Sun is in the limelight again. Especially this one that I read "Sun's gimmicky good idea from C|Net. There's alot to see and hear.

As I suspect...

Sun: No decision on open source Java... incoherent arguments for the push for OS Sun's Java has not helped. Since this was even mentioned higher up the chain, this matter will never happen. My BF happen to mention this.
Plus hear the Gillmor gang talk about Sun os'ing Solaris, plus other IT conversations.

I don't know and what?!?

What's this? Sun opensourcing Solaris, and now they are talking about OS'ing Java! Hmm... *me wanders off and being wary of all this news*

You've got to read this! "Linux Today founder calls for a boycott of Linux Today" That is so screwed up! Allowing M$ to advertise on a Linux website. What did they expect? M$ will of course put up anti-Linux ads, and blatant ones at that. It's infuriating to see that happened though.

What a day!

What is up with today. First it was a power outage at work... the candidates for this was surge onsite, or one of esb's substations was knocked out, or the crew who were out fix our air-con caused it... who knows. Then, my kaykays.com site was offline.. apparently some distuibuted DOS on some sites and knocked everyones sites hosted by Dreamhost. Thank goodness that the folks at Dreamhost are on the job straight away.
Earlier today, I wanted to read an eweek article, and could not access it, as oops, they forgot to re-register their domain name. Today is just alot of oops-a-daisies... heh, thank goodness it's the bank holiday weekend coming up! Yay!
