"Web2.0" buyout madness

Ok, maybe I'm jealous or something with all these multimillion buyouts, the most recent on is Ebay's buyout of Stumbleupon for $75m. Is this in danger of another bust? Web2.0 bubble about to burst, is this in preperation for... ahem...don't shoot me, Web3.0. There's just too much money been flung around.

Last.fm buyout and Avatar alter egos

Wow, Last.fm got bought out by CBS for $280m. It's like a boom all over again, but smaller, much smaller. I use Last.fm to let others know what music I am listening to, when I am using my PowerBook. I find the site extremely slow though, hopefully a bit of money boost might have that a little.

Alter Egos: Avatars and their creators looks interesting. My character is a big female Tauren in WoW, does it reflect me? I think so. Heh!

Beggers sleight of hand

You just have to be careful near ATMs, don't get distracted by people waving magazines in front of you while getting money out. As in this case, a kid would press the full amount and grab the cash and before you know it, you are 200 yo-yos down. At least the culprits are caught, but the money was never recovered.

More getting civil services

I'm not surprised, Mick and I opted for this also. We are not divorcees or anything, it was our own choice, coupled with the hotel that luckliy has a civil registry wedding package. So more people are getting civil services and are in their 30s before tying the knot. Interesting to see people's attitudes to marriage and having children nowadays, with focus on careers, especially for those who are paying off their mortgages.

Creationists at its best

By the way, I'm being sarcastic. So this 8th grade kid from Christian science fair disproves evolution

Using a rolled-up paper towel suspended between two glasses of water with Epsom Salts, the paper towel formed stalactites.

Now, because of this "demonstration", the quips that this means that they take millions of years to develop is wrong.

Here goes my "roll up my eyes" look. And this just reminds me of a recent reddit link to a certain picture, periodic table of elements according to creationists. What a laugh a minute.

2nd Life goes boom for one island

Haha, I like my WoW, but I have never tried (or go near) 2nd Life. But reading stories about things that happen in 2nd Life is funny, like this island setup by a broadcasting company got blown up.

Strange day

Today has been interesting. I've had the best sleep last night (given that I hardly slept proper for the past week and a half, since my hubby is working in Bermuda). And I left home early to go to work, got on the 16 as usual to head out to Rathfarnham. Reading my magazine, I noticed out the corner of my eyes, a very different landscape. I had plum forgot to get off at Rathfarnham Castle! Doh! And ended up at Nutgrove. Now I know where it is. The cursed 75 bus that I see rounding the corner each evening as I wait for my 16 came to the rescue. Oh well, at least that's the worse of it.

Funny thing though, I was just heading to the LUAS stop with my friend, and I heard over the tannoy, the control centre telling some scumbags to move away, or the Gardaí cars would be called. Heh, strange thing to hear, ay? Well, got on the LUAS safe, or so I thought. Some druggie drunks were on board smoking and drinking, on top of shouting "Cen ye hare meh...? CEN YE HARE MEH?" and so on.

Strange day.

To tar or not to tar

For the love of dancing strawberries and whipped cream! I've been banging my head wondering why using tarfile extractall() is not working! It was pretty obvious:

  • Kept complaining it does not exists
  • If I only read the docs properly, it only exists in Python 2.5.

Aggh, it's one of these day!

Well, I'm registered in Dub now

Mick was nice enough to print out the change of address form for me. It was not that hard, go to Garda station, put in envelope, dropped into the Dub city council office. And by the end of the week, I'll get registered in Dublin.

I still don't know who to vote for, it's not really something I am interested in,

Elections coming up

Well, I don't know if it's a surefire sign, I decided to print out the Change of Address RFA3 form, so I get a chance to vote in May, and the black ink is gone. Tomorrow's the last day to register. Well, I tried. Why can't they hold ballot in the weekend? I'm definitely registered back home in Limerick.
