It's funny that Mick and I recently moved into our new build house, and decided not to get Eircom's connection and I see this article on the Beeb site about slow demise of the landline. First of all, we don't really use the landline, the connection fee is high and we didn't want to pay line rental. So we went with UPC, painful as it was for my hubby to get us connected (UPC's complexity in their billing system was giving everyone a pain in the head), it came with digital package, broadband and a telephone. We don't really use the phone though, it's mainly our parents calling us on that. We primarily use the mobile, or Skype for long distance. Maybe it's to do with the generation and infrastructure.
