Well, it's the month my youngest brother's birthday falls on. As it happens, the communions are on, so we had problems in the past, especially last year trying to book a cake, even three days in advance. The cakes we get from Ivan's are really fresh, last year's one was less on the freshness side. This year, I went to pick up the cake in the morning around 10.30am, there was hardly any customers. The cashiers were twiddling their thumbs. I picked up the cake, checked for a newspaper to pick up near the cashiers, and a lady asked if I minded she'll take those to her counter so I can pay for them. I walked past the 3/4 cashiers looking at me, around the corner to the lady's counter and paid for the items. It must have been a really slow morning. When the cake was cut by my brother after the usual Happy Birthday song and blowing out of candles, I took a bite out of my slice of cake.... mmmmm, really fresh and fluffy. Delish! I bet you anything, that it's something to do with the recession, parents are not forking out a fortune for communions this year. Sure enough, I read this today in the Indo, Communion cash to be sacrificed amid downturn.
