[My Own Stuff] AIB and online savings

Mick pointed out that you can set up your own savings account via AIB online banking! And the interest is quite competitive (wrt Rabodirect and Northern Rock), and from as little as €20 a month to a max of €1000 (you can ad-hoc add money which totals upto €1000 a month, or else it will reject the deposit). No, really, it's true, more information at AIB's personal finance page.

It's easy to setup, just log into AIB 24 hour online as usual, and find the Savings online link from the menu, fill out the simple standing order form (how much you want to save each month, how frequently and when it starts), followed by your pin, and voilá... savings account all setup.

You can transfer money anytime via the usual transfer money link (obvious, ay!). But seriously, I needed to see if this option allowed me to transfer money apart from my current account i.e. my deposit account. And it did allow for that. Which is really handy. Banking should really be this easy. To think I went through all the trouble of getting my passport photocopy proofed by my local Garda, tax information, bills... just to ready them to send to Rabo-direct. I suppose, I was waiting for Bank of Scotland to come out with a personal finance package (due end of this year). Good thing I waited. But I am still curious on what BoS has to offer though.
