Chinese students and racial discriminations

Came across this news article on Chinese students facing racial discrimination here in Ireland.

And the article last paragraph shows how important it is for Ireland to take Chinese students and China's relation seriously.

“China is going to be very important in the next few decades, these are the prime people to link Ireland to China, yet we are sending them packing once they finish their degree.”

Come to think of it, I should really pick up and learn Mandarin. >-<

See, Oolong is good for you

Ok, it's not that hard to believe from an Asian person point of view, but Oolong tea helps digestion, it absorbs greasiness. That is why there is a recent Chinese saying (from a drama Stephen Chow starred in a long time ago) "飲杯茶,食個包 (Yum bui cha, sik gaw bau)" → "Drink a cup of tea, and eat a bun".

The Japanese were fanatic over Oolong tea with its link to weight loss, that they would pay anything for it.

But scientists have found a way to produce a soft drink to accompany fastfoods, that will help absorb fat!

It works by using natural ingredients such as oats and Chinese Oolong tea which can help to assimilate fat and cholesterol in food and prevent them being metabolised in the body, said Dr Jorge Oliviera of UCC who helped develop it.

But I don't think I like the idea of eat anything you want, this soft drink will absorb the fat, even though it contains Ooolong.

Everything in moderation is always good. All things that tastes so good are mainly bad for you. It's nature's warning. But self control is hard for most people, I suppose.

Inefficiency in Chinese banks

So banking in China is not efficient. Which is completely opposite to Hong Kong. Everytime I go to the bank in Hong Kong, the queue is long, but it's all done pretty quickly. Better than Ireland, for sure! But why is there a huge difference in efficiency in Mainland China compared to Hong Kong? Maybe Hong Kongers have a faster pace of life, and things needs to be done? This really does not help me picture an improved China at all. This just instills that services are still sloppy, and don't give a toss about the customers. No matter how hard I try not to be biased against Mainland China compared to Hong Kong, people's experiences in China on day-to-day things like this is not helping. I think bad news always makes it ten times as worse, it just increases our ignorances.

Fake priest weddings

Onward with my wedding-related posts. This time it's about western people who live in Japan, and are getting hired as fake priests for western style weddings! Apparently it's quite a money-spinner. The traditional Japanese wedding is not as popular anymore, and the chapels for these weddings can be found anywhere i.e. in the middle of shops in a shopping plaza! The couples know that this is for show, and they do register properly so their marriage is recognised.

It's crazy what Asians do to have a Western style wedding, see another blog entry I posted a while back.
