..of foreigners. I thought it was the Chinese in particular. But from Markcity blog about how Japanese view foreigners are as equally frightening.
My own blog - Article on HK chinese view on non-Chinese.
That link is broken, but I dont think foriegners are viewed that badly around where I am (Suzhou). They certainly have no illusions about multiculture and I have basically no hope of gaining citizenship here. (so bare this in mind when you complain about the difficulty of getting passports in Ireland please). Anyway at least theres a few irish people here in china :)
Posted by: stephen on January 15, 2003 09:48 AMAlso I might add that many chinese seem to have doubts about if foreigners are actually capable of learning chinese due to the fact that chinese is quite a hard language. Usually if i'm talking to an bilingual chinese person they will be pretty rude about my 'mauling of their language'. After reading that article though it seems plausable that they would discriminate towards thier own stereotypes of what a good english speaker is.

I am actaully bilingual, it has its ups and downs. The ups are, HK Chinese are surprised with my Cantonese, and I know what is going on just because I am an overseas born Chinese. I am lucky as most overseas born Chinese (IBCs anyway) don't speak any Chinese at all. The big downside is that I can sometimes confuse the structure of either Chinese or English when I am speaking. It is more embarrasing when I am talking to a Chinese person and an non-Chinese person. But each race is discriminatory to another race in form or another, big or small. But the two links to the articles in both my blogs are interesting to read. And I an curious as I have a part in me that is partial to Chinese culture. It's good to acknowledge the good and bad sides of Chinese culture.
